Introduction
Tesla has revived the ability to transfer Full Self-Driving capability to a new vehicle, removing one of the biggest barriers to upgrading. Previously tied to the original car, FSD can now be carried forward at no cost.
Confirmed via the Tesla app, the program currently has no set expiration date. This is a significant shift from previous limited-time transfer windows.
Eligible Vehicles
FSD transfer applies to Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck. Foundation-Series Cybertrucks and Launch-Series Model Ys are excluded as they include FSD from factory.
How to Transfer
- Open the Tesla app and contact your delivery representative
- Confirm your new vehicle order
- Request FSD transfer as part of the agreement
Additional Promotions
Tesla is also offering $2,000 discounts for early Model Y owners upgrading, and 0% APR financing on new Model 3 purchases. These retention incentives coincide with expanding Supercharger access to other brands.
Regional Availability
Confirmed in the US. Canadian owners report mixed results. European rollout may follow as FSD regulatory approvals progress.
For Owners
If upgrading, note that accessories like charging cables and adapters are model-specific. Verify compatibility with your new vehicle.
